Are you passionate about art, education, community engagement?

Do you live, work and/or play in Mississauga and have a particular connection with the arts?

Volunteer with us!

The Art Gallery of Mississauga prides itself on its long-standing commitment to the preservation and promotion of the arts and education in the community. It is only with the support of our volunteers, members and donors that this is made possible. Thank you for supporting the AGM!

Volunteer Opportunities

The Volunteer program at The Art Gallery of Mississauga provides exposure to the inner workings of a public art gallery institution, promoting an awareness of curatorial and gallery careers through professional experiences not typically available through an academic setting. The goal of this initiative is to create a multi-layered learning experience for the volunteer, through a more hands-on approach.

Interested candidates should have an interest in visual culture, art and design – and wanting to learn the inner workings of a gallery institution. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: setting up installations, assisting with data entry, working with artists, cataloguing of artworks, working with the permanent collection.

The Art Gallery of Mississauga has a demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and proven ability to work effectively and collegially with diverse populations. As an equity employer, we encourage applications from women, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous Peoples, visible minorities, and people with disabilities.

DOCENT PROGRAMME

AGM Docents are trained volunteer educators interested in leading groups of visitors through the current exhibitions on a rotating basis. Docents lead visitors of all ages, providing in-depth information about the exhibitions, opening conversations and expanding the visitors’ experience with an appreciation for art.

AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME

AGM Ambassadors are an important public face to the gallery, who provide a positive visitor experience.

Ambassadors welcome and ensure that visitors are aware of upcoming exhibitions, workshops and special programmes; and encourage guests to learn about the exhibitions, the gallery and the city of Mississauga as a whole. Ambassadors are responsible for collaboratively supervising the galleries, to answer questions, and ensure the preservation of the art. Ambassadors also open conversations with visitors about AGM membership benefits and support staff with administrative work.

INTERNSHIPS
Course Credit with University or College Co-op Education Program

The experience is fast paced and requires thinking on your feet! It is an opportunity to learn about our mission, gain practical and theoretical training, while contemplating the role of a public gallery and the function of art. You will work closely with the Curatorial and Programming staff in the planning of exhibitions, writing or editing of texts and publications, database and inventory management, as well as working with the AGM’s permanent collection. Internship projects are based on current gallery needs. The Internship will allow the student to relate critical theory to professional practice. AGM Internships are for Course Credit with a University, or with a Co-Op Education Program
